VALET VITA Assistance Program

Start your return in-person, we’ll finish it online!

The VALET VITA program provides you with the opportunity to utilize our FREE tax preparation services, while still ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our volunteers, and you, the client. Please see the steps below.

How it works:

Step 1: Make sure you qualify

Before visiting the Site, make sure you qualify to use our VITA tax services. If you are unsure, click here to determine your eligibility.  Most with adjusted gross income levels below $66,000 filing single and $120,000 filing joint will qualify. No income limits for those over the age of 60. And exceptions for those with disabilities or limited English proficiency.

Step 2: Arrive at the Site

See above for Site location availability. Sites are first come, first served. However, we
encourage you to NOT arrive when a Site first opens each day, as longer wait times will
be experienced. Staggered arrival times throughout the available hours should provide a shorter wait.

Step 3: Sign-in & wait to be called

A sign-in sheet will be provided at an easily accessible location. Sign in with your name and cell phone number. Pick up a 13614-C Intake & Interview form to fill out while waiting in your car. You will be called by the next available VITA Tax Preparer to bring your completed form and all your tax documents.
**Make sure that you have photo ID for yourself, and social security cards for every person on the tax return.

Step 4: Intake & Interview with VITA Tax Preparer

When you are called, you will come into the designated area. FACE MASKS MUST BE WORN! Otherwise, we will be unable to assist you. You will provide your completed 13614-C Intake & Interview form, along with your tax documents. Your VITA Tax Preparer will enter your information and upload your documents into a secured portal, Through a partnership with Code for America, and the IRS, this process has been authorized specifically for VITA programs to ensure that the highest standards of client confidentiality is guaranteed.

Step 5: You Are All Set for Now!

Once your information has been uploaded, your return will be assigned to an IRS-certified VITA Tax Preparer for completion within 24 to 48 hours. You will be provided with a “What to Expect Next…” handout to refer to once you leave the Site.

Step 6: Be Ready for a Phone Call from VITA

Within the next 24 to 48 hours (depending on tax return assistance volume and available volunteers, times may exceed this estimate) you will be contacted by the VITA Tax Preparer assigned to your return to review your documents and to ask any questions prior to starting your tax return. Upon completion of your return, it will then be assigned to a Quality Reviewer who will also be in contact with any questions and/or to review your return prior to submitting for e-File to the IRS.

Step 7: You are Done!

Once you approve the tax return, you will be directed to electronically sign your return and then download it to your phone, tablet or computer. Your Federal and State returns will be e-Filed and a copy of your return will be emailed to the email addressed that you provided.
